Unforgettable Flavours of Bangkok
Bangkok is a city of unique blends: the food, the sights, life overall. It's an ever-changing experience, from the crowds and fragrances to the temples, markets and friendly culture. Each visitor will return home with a different impression of this multifaceted destination. In spite of the complexity it's a comfortable and enjoyable city, and basic Thai phrases are easy to learn.
When Bangkok is at its Best
Temperatures in Bangkok are always warm. November through February are the best and coolest months to visit. Wan Trut Chin, the first day of the Chinese New Year, is in February - the date varies every year. The spectacular Thai New Year festival, Songkran, is April 13-15. Monsoon season is the low season with unpredictable storms, which begins in June and continues until November. During the full moon in November enjoy the Loi Krathong public holiday, the Festival of Light.
Ensuring a Pleasant Thai Trip
Passports must be valid a minimum of six months from entry into Thailand. The Visa on Arrival rule allows visitors from India to apply on entry for tourist visits that are 30 days or less. You must have proof of a return flight along with 10,000 THB per person spending money and an entry fee of about 1,000 THB.
Be prepared: travel vaccines recommended include Typhus, Tetanus, Rabies, Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, and Malaria prophylaxis (consult your doctor).
Finding Your Way and Staying in Bangkok
A basic meal out in Bangkok is about 60 baht, a little cheaper than in Delhi. Groceries tend to be higher than in India, and expect costs overall in the city to be about 20% to 30% higher.
The Airport Rail Link, about 100 THB, provides regular transport from the airport terminal at BKK to central Bangkok on the Airport Link Express. From downtown, change lines or take a taxi to your destination. The slower Airport Link City Line has multiple stops and costs somewhat less.
Places to stay begin at about 360 THB. Khao San Road area, Chinatown, and Sukhumvit Road area are popular hotel places to find a hotel.
The bus can be confusing, but it is cheap, as is the metro. Taxis are quick, inexpensive, and popular. Autos, called tuk tuks here, are expensive tourist traps.
