The weather in Brussels is warmer between May and September, which is the best period to visit the city. Things to know before your trip

Indian citizens require a visa to visit Belgium and need to book an appointment on the Belgium Visa website. The cost of life in Brussels is higher than in India. When eating out, budget prices range from about €6 for a basic meal to around €13 for a cheapish restaurant meal. Beers cost approx. €4 and soft drinks about €2. Visitors can enjoy local specialities such as waffles and moules-frites (mussels and chips). For those planning on shopping, the Galeries Saint Hubert (or Sint Hubertusgalerijen) is worth a visit, being the oldest shopping centre in the world.

When you get to Brussels

From the airport, the centre of Brussels can be reached by train in about 15-20 minutes and tickets cost around €8.50. Otherwise, the "Airport Line" bus shuttles take around 30 minutes and you can buy a single ticket for ca. €4.50 in advance (about EUR6 on the bus). Taxi fares are around €35-45, for a ride lasting about 40 minutes. Accommodation options are varied, starting with hostel rooms for approx. €19 per night. If you prefer hotels, a night in a 3-star establishment is about EUR55. Holiday rentals are another option, starting at around €70 a night. The public network is extensive in Brussels, with the Metro, Premetro, trams and buses. With a recharged MOBIB card, single trips cost about EUR2.10 in advance (€2.50 if bought when boarding) and are valid for 60 minutes, including transfers. 5 trips cost ca. €8, and 10 trips about €14. Travelcards are also available, for 1, 2 or 3 days. Taxi fares are around €8-10 for the first 3km and €1.80 per kilometre thereafter.
