Frankfurt is popular with visitors all year round although Winters can be cold with temperatures dropping to -10 °C. Summers are warm and pleasant averaging around 25 °C. The large and traditional festival of Dippemess is held in the city's Rhine and Main areas every April while Carnival takes place in February or March, a period that's known as the fifth season.
Important facts to know before travelling to Frankfurt
Travellers visiting Frankfurt from India will need to obtain a Schengen Visa before they arrive at either of its two airports. Frankfurt International Airport is close to the city centre with good public transport links while budget airlines may be more likely to use Hahn Airport which necessitates a bus transfer of about two hours. The cost of everyday living in Frankfurt is considerably higher than in India with basic meals starting at around 10EUR.

Local trains, RE90, S8 and S9, run from Frankfurt International Airport to the city centre with journey times of approximately 15 minutes and a cost of about 4.50EUR. Frankfurt has an extensive and efficient public transport network of S-Bahn overground trains, U-Bahn underground services, trams and buses. The purchase of a Frankfurt Travel Pass also includes entry to some museums and attractions. Single transport tickets cost around 2.80EUR while day passes cost about 7EUR and a group ticket pass for up to 5 people is good value at 11EUR. Taxis are more expensive and can take longer to navigate the city than public transport.
Hostel accommodation in the city centre starts at around 20EUR per person per night in dormitory rooms. Hotels start at about 50EUR per person. Many trade fairs are held throughout the year in Frankfurt, important ones are the Motor Show in September and the Book Trade Fair in mid-October. If visiting when trade fairs are scheduled early booking is essential.
