India's 'Silicon Valley'

Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka state, and the third-largest city in India. This vibrant city is considered to be one of the best Indian cities for residents. Bangalore is a popular location for business headquarters, especially for IT companies, and is often referred to as India's 'Silicon Valley'.

The best visiting months are from October to March. Winter runs from November to January. December is coolest, with average temperatures of 15°C. Summer in Bangalore is from February to May, with temperatures in April reaching 36°C. June to October are the monsoon months. Bangalore's biannual flower show takes place on Independence Day on 15th August as well as on Republic Day, which  is celebrated on 26th January. The Festival of Karaga Shaktyotsava is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess, Draupadi, and lasts for 9 days in March or April. The month of April also sees the Someshwara Car Festival, including a procession to the Halasuru (or Ulsoor) Someshwara Temple. On 1st November a public holiday celebrates the foundation of the Karnataka State.

Bangalore's official language is Kannada, but Hindi is also spoken.  A thali will cost approximately ₹ 100, while restaurant meals start from around ₹ 300. Information about Bangalore transport and accommodation

The BMTC Vayu Vajra bus costs from ₹ 50 to ₹ 250 for journeys from the airport to Bangalore City. Pre-paid taxis can be booked at the terminals and cost around ₹ 1,200. Metered taxis are cheaper and cost between ₹ 700 - ₹ 1,000 for the journey from the airport to the city. Day bus passes cost around ₹  40, but are not valid on Vajra buses. Auto-rickshaws charge around ₹ 15 x the distance travelled in kilometres, with a minimum charge of around ₹ 25. 10% extra is added for journeys after dark, and there is a heavy luggage surcharge of about ₹ 10-20. Taxis have to be booked in advance and charge a flat rate of ₹ 150 for any journey within Bangalore.

A 20% accommodation tax is added to advertised room prices. Cheap rooms start from around ₹ 700, mid-range accommodation is about ₹ 1,500, while luxury hotels charge from ₹ 4,000 a night.
