Brussels all year round
The best months to visit Brussels are from May until September, when the weather is at its best. In May you can enjoy "Fête de l'Iris", with its free live music, street art and street food festival. The first Thursday in July as well as the Tuesday before that is "Ommegang", a medieval pageant. At the end of August and beginning of September visitors can enjoy athletics in the form of "Memorial Van Damme".
Prepare to go to Brussels
Indian passport holders require a visa for travel to Belgium. Make an appointment online on the Visa for Belgium website. Expect prices to be a lot higher in Brussels than in India. You can eat out from around 6EUR for a basic meal. A main meal in a restaurant costs approx. 13EUR, beer costs from roughly 4EUR and soft drinks are about 2EUR. Typical food includes Brussels waffles, costing between around 1.50 and 3 EUR, or Moules frites (mussels with chips). Enjoy shopping at the "Galeries Saint Hubert - Sint Hubertusgalerijen", the first shopping centre in the world (1847).
Local information about Brussels
You can find transport from the airport to central Brussels by train for around 8.50 euros, with a journey time of around 15-20 minutes. This is the fastest option. Bus shuttle "Airport Line" is operated by STIB/MIVB (Line 12 or 21) and costs approximately 6 euros if you pay on the bus (about 4,50 euros if paid in advance). This trip takes 30 minutes or so. Taxis cost around 35-45 euros, and take about 40 minutes into the city centre. Beds in a travellers hostel cost from around 19 euros a night. A three-star hotel will cost from 55 euros or so per person per night. Holiday rentals can be had from about 70 euros. Public transport is operated by the STIB/MIVB. They offer Metro, Premetro (tram - partly underground), trams and buses. A recharged MOBIB card for a single trip "JUMP", valid for 60 minutes with changes costs about 2.10EUR (paid for in the vehicle ca. 2.50 euros). A five-trip card costs 8 euros (10 trips for 14 euros; transferable.) A day travelcard costs about 7. 50 euros (2 days for approximately 14 euros, 3 days about 18 EUR). Taxis cost between around 8-10 euros for the first 3 km, then about 1.80 euros per km after this. Bike sharing is roughly 1.60 euros per day (first 30 minutes being free), one week costs around 7.60 euros. Many top attractions are located close to each so walking is an option.
