The recommended months to visit Brussels are between May and September. This is when the temperature is at its warmest. A great festival to check out is "Fête de l'Iris" which takes place in May, and showcases free live music, street are and street food. Another great festival is a medieval pageant called "Ommegang", which takes place on the first Thursday in July. Lastly, the end of August and beginning of September marks the athletic tournament called "Memorial Van Damme". Be sure to check that out too.
Important information before you travel
Indian passport holders are required to have a visa in order to enter Belgium. Be sure to make an appointment online on the visa for Belgium website. Price are generally higher in Belgium than in India. Eating out costs around 6 euros for a basic meal, with a main meal in a restaurant costing approximately 13 euros. Beers cost around 4 euros and soft drinks are around 2 euros. Typical food in Brussels consist of waffles (between around 1.50 and 3 euros), and Moules frites (mussels and chips). Some great shopping can be done at "Galeries Saint Hubert - Sint Hubertusgalerijen"which was the first shopping centre in the world built in 1847.
Local information: arrival, accommodation and transport
Taking a train from the airport to central Brussels costs around 8.50 euros the journey taking around 15-20 minutes. This is the fastest option. You can also take the bus shuttle "Airport Line" operated by STIB/MIVB (Line 12 or 21). This costs approximately 6 euros if you pay in the bus and 4.50 euros if you pay in advance. It takes 30 minutes. Taxis are around 35-45 euros and take about 40 minutes. Travellers can stay in hostels for around 19 euros per night, 3-star hotels from 55 euros, or holiday rental from about 70 euros. Public transit operated by the STIB/MIVB is great. A single ticket costs 2.10 euros and is valid for 60 minutes. Taxis are around 8-10 euros for the first 3km.
