Formerly known as Cochin, the city of Kochi is an enchanting destination that attracts multitudes of visitors. It boasts a wide array of architectural delights and a picturesque shoreline. Although Kochi can be visited throughout the year; some seasons are more pleasant than others. The months of October and February (wintertime) are synonymous with pleasant weather. Temperatures hover in the mid ranges making it ideal for beach bums and adventure seekers. Temperatures begin to soar between March and June; Kochi is not crowded at this time of year. The monsoon season runs from July until September, when heavy rainfall transforms the city. The city hosts a number of colourful festivals: the Onam Festival (August - September) and the Kochi Carnival (December) being just two.

Although Kochi is considered relatively safe, the Indian city has a low crime rate involving petty pickpockets and bag snatchers. Kochi experiences high humidity during some parts of the year; consider wearing light clothing, particularly between March and September.

Kochi International Airport offers various city transfer options to suit varying needs. Prepaid taxis operate from outside the main terminal building and taxi counters are available inside the arrivals hall - where passengers can pay for their taxi in advance of travel. The taxi fares must be paid in cash and there are ATM machines at the terminal. If you opt for buses, you will find a bus stop outside the departures terminal.

Kochi offers a delightful variety of accommodation options. While the area around Ernakulam is busy, Fort Kochi is a quieter part of town.
