When to go...

The best time of year for travel to Aurangabad is during their winter - from around October to February, as the temperature at this time of year averages at around 22 degrees Celsius. The summer season lasts from March until May, and is even hotter - and then from June until September is the annual monsoon season. Annual festivities include Ganesh Chaturthi at the end of August/beginning of September, Diwali in late October/early November, or the Aurangabad Festival of the arts at the end of December. Aurangabad's high Muslim population means that the end of Ramadan is also a time for festivities, and for those who brave the summer heat, there's Shivaji Jayanti and Khultabad Urs each May.

While you're there...

Aurangabad has a wide variety of accommodation for every budget, depending on what you need. Cheaper accommodation tends to cluster around the train station and central city area, and starts at around Rs.700 per night. At the other end of the scale, luxury hotels - usually located nearer the airport - can set you back around Rs. 3,500 per night. The cost of eating out can vary too, depending on where you go and what you want. A cheap Thali (meal platter) can come to around Rs. 150; a restaurant meal, around Rs. 200. Shop around, and don't be afraid to try something new! Travel from the airport to the city is only available via taxi or auto. Prepaid taxi fares will usually be around Rs. 15 for first 1.5 km, and then an additional RS 15 for each additional km. An auto fare for a trip to the station will be around Rs.150. Make sure to negotiate the fare before you set out, to avoid surprises. Within the city itself a bus service also operates, with fares starting at around Rs. 13 per trip.
