The best time to travel to Delhi is from October until the end of March when temperatures are comfortable. Delhi can become very hot from April until the end of July, with temperatures climbing up to 40 degrees Celsius and above. While in Delhi, avoid travelling alone if possible - particularly if you're a female. The cost of living in Delhi tends to be fairly expensive compared to the rest of India. A meal at a cheap restaurant costs around 200 Rs.
Local transport and accommodation in Delhi
Many hotels provide shuttle services to and from Delhi airport. Other transport options from the airport to the centre, include the Metro 'orange line'. This operates between the hours of 4:45am and 11:15pm, and costs approximately 100 Rs. Travel time via metro to the city centre is just under 25 minutes. Outside the airport are prepaid taxis, or you can catch a shuttle bus to Connaught Place. Rooms in a cheap hostel cost from about 160 Rs per person per night. For 3 star hotel accommodation expect to pay at least 600 Rs. Delhi has a good transport network, which includes metro trains, buses and rickshaws. A one way public transport ticket costs about 15 Rs. With a start price of 30 Rs, and then 15 Rs per kilometre, taxis are a more expensive option.
